Van Treuren Invites Amherst Residents To Bicentennial Cleanup Project
September 15, 2011
Phil Van Treuren, an Amherst City Councilman At-Large, is encouraging residents to join him in showing community pride by cleaning up a local historic landmark.
Van Treuren and other volunteers will meet at Amherst’s Cleveland Street Cemetery on Saturday, September 24 from 11AM to 1PM to spruce up the historic landmark. Volunteers are encouraged to pick up trash, trim bushes and take on other small beautification efforts.
2011 marks the 200th birthday of the City of Amherst, and Van Treuren says that cleaning up the Cleveland Street Cemetery is a good way to celebrate.
“One of the things that makes Amherst such a great community is our appreciation for the city’s long history,” Van Treuren said. “This is an opportunity to show respect to some of our greatest historic residents.”
Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves gloves, trash bags, shovels and small gardening tools. Gravestones at the cemetery will NOT be touched or repaired by volunteers during this event.
Residents who have questions are encouraged to call Councilman Van Treuren at (440) 506-0449.
