This is the Kind of Campaign Donation I Appreciate Most
Fundraising for political campaigns can be difficult . . . and rightly so. There are more important things average people need to spend their hard-earned money on than politics, especially in today’s economy.
That’s why it means so much to me when someone living on a limited budget sends us a small donation. Here’s an example of one of these much-appreciated contributions that we received in the mail today:
It’s only three bucks . . . but to the person who sent in this check, three dollars might be part of a fixed monthly income that he depends on.
Don’t get me wrong: I appreciate larger donations, as well. But for some people, a three-dollar political contribution is significant. In the best way that they can, they’re showing confidence in what we’re fighting for.
That’s why I’m so proud to say that the vast majority of all the campaign contributions that we’ve received are from small donors who have given us $25 or less.
The people who are donating to our campaign aren’t political party hacks or part of the Good-Old-Boys Gang. Most of our donors are regular people from all around Lorain County who have taken the time to show their support with contributions of one buck, five bucks, or ten bucks.
In fact, if you look at the most recent campaign finance reports, you’ll see a pretty big difference between our donor base and our opponent’s donor base. We’ve received small contributions of $25 or less from 201 named donors.
In the same time period, our opponent listed small contributions from 25 named donors.
For anyone who’s keeping track, that means that we’ve received more than eight times the amount of small donations that our opponent has.
In the end, our opponent will end up with more money in the bank from big donors (incumbent politicians usually do). But I would much rather have the large number of dedicated supporters who are stepping forward to make small contributions to our campaign.
