Lorain County Emergency Management Needs Volunteers For Practice Exercise

October 20, 2011

lorain county emergency managementThe Lorain County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security is looking for volunteers who would like to participate as simulated victims in a mass casualty practice exercise.

The Agency is testing the skills of Lorain County emergency responders when they are required to do a mass evacuation involving traffic control, accounting for missing victims, and triage, treatment and transport of mass casualties during a weather emergency.  For this exercise to be a success, the Agency needs at least 100 people to play the roles of victims.

The typical victim role will simulate a broken leg, heart attack, head injury, sprained wrist, cuts or bruises.  However, some victim volunteers will not have any injuries at all and will just be used to increase the number of evacuees that the emergency responders must get to the evacuation center.

This mass casualty exercise is scheduled for November 19 from 9:00a.m.-noon at the Lake Erie Crusher’s stadium in Avon.  If you wish to participate, you must sign up in advance on November 13 from 3:00p.m.-6:00p.m. at the Volunteer Reception Center at the New Russia Township Garage on November 13, 2011.   If you have questions, please email or call Alice Webber at awebber@loraincounty.us  and  440-329-5117.
