Lorain County Elections: 2012 Democrat, Republican Primary Dates
October 21, 2011
So, are you wondering where to vote and when the primary election day in Lorain County will be in 2012? Actually, it looks like Democrat and Republican voters in Lorain County might get to vote on two separate primary election dates in 2012.
The Ohio Senate today passed a plan that would set a primary election date of March 6 for local and state candidates (for instance: Lorain County Commissioners, State Representative and State Senators), and a separate June 12 primary for federal offices (the presidential primary, congress, and United States Senate).
If this plan passes the Ohio house of representatives and is adopted (which is likely), then Lorain County voters might need to get used to a new schedule of two separate Democratic and Republican party primary election dates in the same year. Lorain County voting could have a whole new schedule!
One thing is for sure: if the presidential primary election day is set back to June 12, then don’t expect many candidates for the Republican presidential nomination to be visiting Lorain County early in the year (the nomination process will be wrapped up by then). The General Election season should be an exciting one in Lorain County, with certain visits from President Barack Obama and the Republican nominee, as well. As of the posting of this information, President Obama does not have a clear Republican challenger yet.
So far, the only contested local primary election that we know of is between Commissioner Lori Kokoski and Democratic rival Rich Resendez. The other Democrat county commissioner, Ted Kalo, does not yet have any announced opponents in the 2012 primary. Voters (including early voting at the Lorain County Board of Elections and absentee voters) will choose their favorite candidates in Lorain County cities that include Avon, Avon Lake, Sheffield Lake, North Ridgeville, Elyria, Lorain, Amherst, Wellington, Grafton and Columbia Township.
