In Response To American Flag Burning, Let’s Show Our Amherst Pride!
August 5, 2011
Earlier this week, I was proud to mail an American flag to several thousand Amherst residents.
You might have heard the disturbing news that an Amherst woman who lived through World War II recently had her American flag taken down and burned in her driveway.
This disgusting act wasn’t just an attack on the American flag; it was also insulting to every patriotic Amherst resident. Amherst is a great city because it’s so distinctly American: our neighbors watch out for each other, we are proud of our community, and families are our top priority.
Many of you already have an American flag flying proudly on your property, but I wanted to make sure that every single resident is able to display the flag as a response to this horrible act. That’s why I’ve mailed a 6″ by 11″ glossy American flag flier to several thousand Amherst homes.
I hope you will join me in showing the perpetrators of this awful flag burning just how proud we are of the United States of American and of the City of Amherst. If you don’t already have an American flag flying at your home, I hope you will proudly display the flier in your window.
If you are an Amherst resident and didn’t receive the flier, please contact me and I will personally bring an American flag to your home.
Amherst residents might not agree on everything, but we do have one very important thing in common: we’re all Americans. In the face of attacks like this, let’s come together in a positive way to re-affirm what makes our community great!
