Amherst, Other Lorain County Cities Among Top Cleveland Ohio Suburbs
2012 “Rating the Suburbs” includes top scores for Avon, Avon Lake, Amherst Ohio

The Cleveland Magazine June 2012 edition just hit the newsstands, and it’s newest “Rating the Suburbs” study has some good news for Amherst and other cities in Lorain County, Ohio.
Avon, Avon Lake and Amherst were all standouts in the study. Avon was ranked #9 overall in the Top Suburbs, and Avon Lake was ranked #17. Although Amherst wasn’t ranked in the to 20 overall, it did rank #13 in the Top Safety communities category. Avon and Avon Lake also ranked #13 and #14 respectively for the Top Education Stats category.
Here’s a brief overview from Cleveland Magazine about how the decided which suburbs were in the Top 20:
In the years that we’ve rated Cleveland’s suburbs, we’ve evaluated three major factors: safety, education and housing. We’ve added other qualities that make a suburb desirable–such as public services, diversity and walkability–based on our readers’ feedback and our 2006 survey of suburban Clevelanders, which asked what they valued most in a community. Our standards are limited, to a degree, by what is quantifiable.
Unfortunately, the City of Lorain scored second-to-last in the study for Safety Rank (#76, just before last-ranked East Cleveland).
Congrats to all of the Lorain County cities that received good scores on the 2012 Cleveland Magaizine Rating the Suburbs study!
