Amherst Ohio Schools

Amherst Ohio schools are the pride of our community, and the Amherst school system is renowned in Lorain County for its great teachers and exemplary students.

Amherst Ohio schools include Marion Steele High School, Amherst Junior High School, Nord Middle School, Harris Elementary, Powers Elementary and Shupe Elementary.

The citizens of Amherst are actively involved in local schools, and it’s one of the things that makes our city such a good place to raise a family. The Amherst School District is not limited to the borders of the city however, and includes a small portion of the City of Lorain as well. Being in the Amherst School District is a big selling point for homes in that particular section of Lorain.

If you have children in the Amherst schools and would like to get more involved in parent/teacher or extracurricular activities, please contact the administration of the school your child attends. The Amherst school system has a diverse amount of sports programs, extracaricular programs and student leadership programs. The football and track stadium at Steele High School is the centerpiece of the community, and a gathering place for fans of the Amherst Comets sports teams. It features a track that is open to use for the rest of the community when not being utilized by the students.

Amherst Ohio schools are officiated by the Amherst School Board, which is an elected body of representatives that is separate from city government. School board members are elected by voters within the school district, and school taxes are paid from a levy on homeowners in the district.
