New Voting Locations & Election Precincts In Amherst, Ohio

September 29, 2011

As I indicated in a post earlier this month, the Lorain County Board of Elections eliminated some voting precincts in the City of Amherst this year.  I just got my hands on the brand new precinct maps for Amherst, and you can view a PDF of the maps at this link if you have any questions about voting in Lorain County.

Additionally, there are new polling places (voting locations) for Amherst residents who wish to vote in this year’s election.  Remember, election day is Tuesday, November 8, 2011!

Amherst Ohio Election Lit: Mayor Taylor, Joe Miller For Council

September 26, 2011

I think it’s important for Amherst voters to learn as much as they can about the candidates who are asking for their votes, so I’m scanning and publishing these fliers that I recently received from Mayor David Taylor and Council At-Large Candidate Joe MillerPlease keep in mind that my publication of their literature below does not necessarily indicate my endorsement.

Remember, election day is November 8, 2011!  If you are an Amherst, Ohio candidate for elected office, I would be happy to publish your campaign literature on my blog (regardless of what party you are in or what race you are running in).  Please mail me any campaign fliers you are passing out, and I’ll share it with my audience.

Pics From Our Cleveland Street Cemetery Cleanup In Amherst

September 24, 2011

Thanks to everyone who showed up for our Cleveland Street Cemetery cleanup project this morning, it was a huge success!  Our group cleaned up trash, pulled weeds and trimmed invasive growth away from several historical grave sites.  We even uncovered a century-old gravestone that had been hidden by invasive growth for decades!

NOTE: Our volunteers did NOT cut down any vegetation that was planted by people.  We removed a few mulberries that were invasive (not planted by people).  Planted evergreens that obscured gravestones were trimmed down, but not removed.

I’d also like to give a very special thanks to organizer Linda Turley, City Council At-Large candidate Joe Miller, and First Ward Council candidate Albert Bereznay for coming to help.  Your efforts to spruce up one of Amherst’s greatest historical treasures are much appreciated . . . what a great way to celebrate Amherst’s 200th birthday!

I personally have several ancestors buried in the Cleveland Street Cemetery . . . do any of you?  Please leave a comment below and let us know!
