Good Luck To Nick Brusky In His Run For Butler Township Trustee

July 30, 2011

Nick Brusky Butler Township OhioMany of you know my good friend Nick Brusky, who used to be an Amherst City Councilman At-Large.  Nick now works at the Ohio Statehouse and lives in Butler Township with wife Alissa and their new baby son Jack.

Well, there are more good things on the horizon for Nick: he recently filed to run for Butler Township Trustee, and will be on the ballot there for the November 8 election.

Amherst was lucky to have a councilman like Nick.  He was an effective, hard-working and tireless advocate for our residents, and was re-elected to his Council At-Large seat twice.  I’m sure he will be every bit as successful on the Butler Township board of trustees.

Please join me in wishing Nick Brusky luck in his run for Butler Township Trustee, and take a moment to visit his Facebook Fan Page and click the “Like” button.

Amherst Cinema Movie Theater: News-Times Newspaper Letter

July 27, 2011

From The Amherst News Times Newspaper

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

To the Editor:

I took my young daughter to see a children’s movie at the Amherst Cinema last weekend, and she asked to go home about fifteen minutes into the film. As we were walking out, an employee saw that we were leaving early and offered my daughter a free pass to come see another movie in the future. I wanted to compliment the Amherst Cinema for having such polite, customer-focused employees.

This kind of friendly customer service is just one of the many reasons why Amherst residents should support our local merchants whenever we can. If you haven’t watched a movie at the Amherst Cinema recently, I hope you’ll make a point of taking your family there soon.

Sincerely,

Phil Van Treuren

Amherst Ohio Basement Flooding: City Survey & Meeting Will Address Problems

July 26, 2011

amherst ohio basement floodingI’ve been contacted by numerous Amherst residents regarding basement flooding that occurred in homes across the City this weekend, and wanted to update everyone on actions that the City of Amherst is taking to remedy the situation.

The thunderstorms over the weekend caused some of the most widespread floods that Amherst has seen in many years.  Residents across the entire city were affected (I had some flooding in my basement, as well).  The flooding overwhelmed both the sanitary and storm sewers and caused water damage to basements in every ward of the city.

Mayor Dave Taylor spoke to members of Amherst City Council last night about steps that the City is taking to remedy the unprecedented flooding that we’ve seen this year (you can listen to the Mayor’s comments on the local government cable access channel).  The mayor said that he has tasked the Utilities Department and our city engineers with getting as much pertinent information as possible about the flooding in order to incorporate the data into a review of stormwater problems.

If you’ve had flooding on your property in Amherst or know of someone who had a flooding problem that has not been reported, please contact me with your information and I will notify the administration.  The City of Amherst plans on contacting all residents who report flooding issues in order to investigate and add their information to the city-wide stormwater review.

Additionally, the City of Amherst will be holding a public meeting sometime in the next 2 to 3 weeks at the Main Street Amherst Building that will include city officials and engineers.  At the meeting, residents will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback and listen to updates on how the city plans to remedy the flooding problem.

I’ll update everyone with the date and time of the public meeting as soon as it is set.  In the meantime, please let me know if you or your neighbors had any flooding problems on your property, and I will do everything I can to make sure your needs are taken care of.
